Waterloo Greenway Conservancy (WGC) creates and maintains an extraordinary urban park system and a restored Waller Creek, in partnership with the City of Austin, for the benefit of all. WGC renews the natural environment, promotes play, health and wellness, economic vitality and mobility, and engages the community through outreach, education, cultural events, and the arts.
The Public Space Internship (PSI) is a seasonal operations position. Reporting to WGC’s Director of Park Operations (DPO), the PSI will actively participate in Waterloo Greenway’s daily operations including event and public program support, horticulture, visitor services, data gathering and analysis. The position works closely with other departments including Development, Events, Public Programs, and Art.
This position will actively participate in maintaining excellent operational standards for Waterloo Greenway and ensuring an exceptional visitor experience in the Park.
Primary Responsibilities include:
1. Deliverables: Achieve tangible short term goals assigned by the DPO as relates to general operations, horticulture, public programming and visitor services.
2. Event and Program Support: Work closely with WGC staff, contractors and vendors for load in and load out of events – including equipment setup, communication with instructors and/or performers, crowd management, and supervision of events with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.
3. Data and Metrics: Gathering Park visitor counts, event and program attendance counts, and general operational metric tracking, with a view towards preparing and presenting timely reports. The PSI will participate in analysis of data collected.
4. Visibility: The PSI will serve as a highly visible ambassador of our public spaces. The position involves a significant amount of time spent outdoors, interacting with staff, partners and the general public.
